Thiksey Monastery is one of the most striking monastery complexes near Leh, rising in tiers above the Indus Valley with wide views of fields, roads, and mountains. Travellers visit for its prayer halls, rooftop viewpoints, the large Maitreya Buddha statue, and the early-morning atmosphere when the monastery is active but still calm. It is an excellent cultural stop for first-time Ladakh visitors and pairs well with Shey Palace, Hemis Monastery, and Stakna on a monastery-focused day from Leh.
